An ice pack over the cast helps. Make sure it is in a ziploc bag so it can not leak on the cast. Also beanie babies make great cast props and stay in place a little better than pillows. The first couple of days are the worse. As the swelling goes down and the bone begins to knit she will be much more comfortable. It also helps to just give her the pain meds on a regular schedule the first few days and then when she is in less pain in a few days wait until she asks for it. Keep it propped up to prevent swelling. The less she moves around the better for a few days.
